Letterkenny musician Don Ponsonby’s charity birthday party was a huge success this week, raising almost €6,000 for Donegal Hospice.
Family and friends and some very talented guests turned up at the Clanree Hotel on Monday to party the night away for an important cause.
Don, a native of the Oldtown, wanted to use his 70th birthday as an opportunity to give back to the hospice. Don’s brother Paul had received wonderful care at the Hospice before he sadly passed in 2012, aged 60.
In memory of Paul, and in gratitude to the Hospice, Don had planned a party like no other this week. Instead of gifts, all he asked for was for people to donate what they could.
Don is a well-known drummer who played in the Denver Showband, The Rascals and more recently the Mindbenders. He enlisted some of his musical friends to entertain guests and make it a great night to remember.
Don was delighted with the huge amount raised. The grand total is yet to be counted up and announced in due course.
“We’re a stone’s throw from €6,000,” Don said.
“Thank you to everyone who attended on the night and all the others who were not able to attend and make a contribution to a great cause.
“Thanks to the Clanree for the use of their premises and thank you to all the musicians and singers that took part.”
