Letterkenny man Mark English faces a tough battle in tonight’s 800 metre semi-final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
The Finn Valley AC athlete was badly hampered in his qualifying heat on Tuesday, but ran a huge race to get back up for 4th place in a season’s best of 1:45:71. That result will see him back on track this evening at 8.08pm.
English will face a huge challenge in trying to advance to the medal decider, with only the first two in each heat qualifying alongside the next two fastest.
However, he is appearing at his sixth World Championships, a record for an Irish athlete, and a bold showing can be expected.
Tonight’s race will be broadcast live on Virgin Media Two.
