Mark English failed to make the final of the World Championships 800m despite another heroic run and season’s best in Hungary.
The Letterkenny man gave it his all and finished in a time of 1.45.14 but ultimately finished seventh out of eight starters.
The Finn Valley athlete kept in touch with the field throughout but just didn’t have the kick coming into the last 100 metres as the leaders pulled away.
It was always going to be a tough ask for English who was up against many competitors who had better season’s best this year.
He qualified as a fastest loser but he simply didn’t have enough in the tank to make it to the final.
He finished his heat in a time of 1.45.71 which was another season’s best before shaving more than another half a second of that time which he will be pleased with.
In the end, however, the gap was simply too much for English to bridge.
