Gardaí have confirmed a decision was made not to prosecute anyone after a shooting incident close to the set of Liam Neeson’s film in south west Donegal last year.
Back in May 2022, a person working on the set of the film ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ claimed to have come close to being hit by a stray bullet on lands at Carrick.
It is believed the bullet was let off by hunters shooting deer in the early hours of the morning.
Filming of the blockbuster, which is due to be released worldwide in October, was not ongoing at the time of the incident.
The incident was reported to Gardaí who launched an investigation into the incident. It is understood local guards visited a house in the Kilcar area and spoke to a number of men.
However, a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office confirmed to Donegal Daily that a decision was made not to prosecute.
“In relation to this investigation, I can advise that Gardaí conducted a full investigation and prepared a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and the DPP returned a direction of no prosecution in this matter,” they said.
‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ will premiere at next month’s prestigious Venice Film Festival.
The multi-million euro blockbuster, also starring Oscar nominee Kerry Condon, Ciaran Hinds and Jack Gleeson (Game of Thrones), was shot over a seven week period mainly in Glencolmcille, but also in Kilcar, Killybegs and Ardara.
Earlier this year, Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired permission to distribute the film in America. The Goldwyn studio is planning to release the film in American cinemas this autumn. A host of international buyers have already come forward to pre-buy the film, including Netflix for UK and Ireland audiences.
