Woman ditches dog after vet refuses to remove pet’s teeth because he was biting tyres

A dog-owner in Co Donegal has given her dog up for rehoming – after she asked a vet to remove the dog’s teeth because he was biting car tyres.

The dog was surrendered to the Animals in Need charity in Donegal Town.

The charity is now on the look-out for a forever home for the dog.

A spokesperson for the charity, which looks after hundreds of unwanted dogs and cats each year, said the dog is now safe in their care.

A spokesperson explained “We hear many heartbreaking reasons why people have to give up their pets.

“(This can be because of) divorce, death in the family, loss of jobs, etc. But some of the excuses and reasons we hear are beyond reason.

“Recently a woman rang. She had to rehome her dog as he had started to bite car tyres.

“Her way of ‘fixing’ this was to ring the vets to get an appointment for them to remove his teeth! Much to her annoyance- the vet refused.”

The story has sent shockwaves through the local community on social media.

Michaela Hone said “That is the most insane thing I’ve ever heard in my life. People should be forced to pay to go through a dog training/ownership course before ever being allowed to own a dog.”

Marie Laird posted “Omg when you think nothing more can shock you … there it is.”

Sylvester McGookin added “Some people are actually off their heads. Glad to know you have the poor wee thing and it’s safe. Thank you.”
