Samuel Gorman from Manorcunnigham zoomed past the competition to win Letterkenny’s Soap Box Derby today.
Young Samuel, aged just 16, clinched the title with a best time of 27 seconds.
It’s Samuel’s second time winning the event, having enjoyed his first victory in 2019. The keen young rally driver enters numerous events and has taken first place many times.
Crowds lined the course this afternoon to see (most) cars whizz through the obstacles from the Golden Grill all the way to Sister Sara’s bar.
The traditional event has been a popular feature of the Letterkenny festival for decades, and the Gormans are no strangers to the street race. Samuel’s father Sammy was a champion himself in the decades gone by.
The ball race was won by Leonard Watson.
