Ground has been broken on a massive multi-million euro extension to make Letterkenny’s Century Complex one of the biggest family entertainment centres in the north-west.
Owner Mark Doherty exclusively revealed his plans for the huge 22,000ft extension to Donegal Daily.
The new complex will include an indoor/crazy golf course, one of the first of its kind in Ireland.
Work on the development, which will be adjoined to the current Century Play Complex, started this week.
Well-known local builders Dorrian Construction are behind the construction of the site while the architects are MH Associates Limited in Letterkenny.
As well as indoor/crazy golf plan, Mr Doherty will add a number of other attractions to the site as it is being constructed.
He told Donegal Daily “We’re very excited by the plans and it will add to the Century Cinema, Century Play and the Backstage Bar and Grill.
“It’s a major undertaking and it will include a number of new concepts including the indoor golf as well as other attractions we can’t say too much about just yet.
“Our focus will remain on family entertainment but the golf theme will be more for teenagers and older but there’ll still be lots for the entire family to do once they come to the Century Complex.”
Mark said the investment is backed by a strong belief that business remains strong in Letterkenny and Donegal and that it is not only a greta place to work but also to play.
And although he appreciates that times are tough for some people, he thinks the Donegal public have always shown resilience even at the toughest of times.
He added “People in Donegal have always had to make a living for themselves and that’s nothing new. We’ve faced challenges in the eighties, the nineties, the noughties and now in the twenties again.
“It’s nothing new and we just have to go out there and do it again. But as well as working hard we also have to enjoy our down time and our new complex will hopefully help families to do that.”
With diggers moving onto the site this week, the Century Complex boss estimates that the ribbon-cutting on the new complex will take place in September or October of next year, 2024.
