A brave Gweedore boy has set his sights on climbing Errigal mountain in aid of charity and friends.
Rory McDevitt from Sheskinbeg has always wanted to reach the top of the ‘big mountain’ that he often passes from his homeplace.
Despite being born with life-limiting conditions and facing numerous health challenges, Rory is determined to reach new heights to help others.
This Sunday 20th August, Rory’s dad Alan will carry him to the top of Errigal in a fully equipped adapted carrier. Rory’s amazing journey will be supported by Donegal Mountain Rescue Team, Garda Síochána Donegal, Brian Ferry and a team of paramedics, as well as many family and friends.
The inspirational young boy’s challenge is in aid of the Little Blue Heroes, a charity voluntarily led by gardaí, of which Rory is an honorary member. He’ll also be helping some lovely friends and individual little heroes who are raising funds for much needed equipment and adaptions. One of those friends has kindly provided the carrier that Rory will use at the weekend.
The climb will start at 10.30am and people are invited to come along and support Rory and Alan. Donations will be gratefully accepted on the day or online here: https://www.idonate.ie/crowdfunder/Rorysclimb4heroes
Rory’s garda friends have called on the public to show their support and said: “We wish Honorary Garda Rory and his family all the best as they set out to fulfill Rory’s dream of “climbing the big mountain”!”
