There has been a large attendance on the opening day of the MacGill Summer School in Glenties.
The theme for the 43rd annual summer school is ‘A New Global Order – Precarious & Dangerous?’.
Among those who attended today’s opening event was the Ukrainian Ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Garasko, organiser Joe Mulholland and former MEP Pat Cox.
Indeed, the theme of today’s event was the Ukraine with Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna due to join the school live from the war-torn country this evening.
A discussion entitled ‘How and when will the war in Ukraine end?’ will also be held.
A variety of issues will be discussed tomorrow while 23rd Annual Hume Lecture will be delivered by US Congressman Brendan Boyle whose family hail from Glencolmcille.
On Friday morning the school will kick off with ‘The future of Russia and its place in the world’.
Former RTE Northern Editor, Tommie Gorman will host discussion entitled ‘Ireland – The future?’.
The Summer School will come to a close on Saturday with two talks examining Ireland’s battle against climate change and also the future of Artificial Intelligence.
