The community notes for the Dunkineely/Bruckless/Killaghtee are out now.
Killaghtee Festival 2023
Less than two weeks now until the big event, this week’s notes will look at the main events. Come along and enjoy a full range of events in the Dunkineely, Bruckless and Killaghtee area. Nearly all events are free. This year’s main events include:
- Picnic in the Park
- The Minertones live in the street
- Craft market
- Kid’s sports day
- A boat trip to St. John’s Point
These are just the attractions. There is also a Treasure Hunt, walking tours on legends, history, waterways and fossils, two very different sound baths and yoga.
The pubs will have live music events all weekend and don’t forget the tractor run! So, come along for the big opening event at 7pm on Friday 25th August in Dunkineely Main Street for a fancy dress competition, and of course our Killaghtee Accordion Marching Band. More information can be found here and at Killaghtee.ie.
Picnic in the Park
Join us at the new Bruckless Community Park for an afternoon of fun and entertainment. Bring your own sandwiches or pick one up from Barry’s Garage, kick back and enjoy live acts from the local community. Music, song and dance. Tea and scones will be available to buy. Starting at 1pm on Saturday 26th August there will be a walking tour of Bruckless Bay exploring
waterways and Legends.
The day will also see the return of Heather with a new interactive art experience (remember the Whale of Time from last year). The day features a bouncy castle and more. At 2pm there will be an open mic. So come along and do your thing on our open air stage. Then from 3pm to 5pm we have a collection of acts from the local area to entertain you. All in the beautiful Bruckless Community Park.
The Minertones
Live on Dunkineely Main Street, we present the Minertones. Dance to everything from trad to pop and rock to country on Saturday night 26th August, 7-9pm. This local, and highly popular band plays it all. Check them out at theminertones.com. Afterwards there will be live music in the local pubs of Dunkineely.
Craft Fair
Dunkineely Main Street will come alive on Sunday 27th August, 10am to 2pm. Come for a stroll along the street and enjoy the music and stalls. If you want to take part, stalls are free. Just contact dunkineelycommunity@gmail.com for more information. Buskers welcome! In the event of poor weather, don’t worry, the event will move into the Dunkineely Community Centre.
Sports Day
Back by popular demand at the Killaghtee Festival, Sunday 27th August at 2pm in the Bruckless National Park. Run by Dunkineely Celtic and suitable for children of all ages. This free event was amazing last year, with all the kids having an amazing time.
Boat Trip
This year’s Killaghtee Festival will once again offer a boat trip for just €15. Taking place at 6pm on Sunday 27th August, leaving from Killybegs, the tour will once again head out to St. John’s Point for some fantastic views of Killaghtee and the surrounding area. There may even be some wildlife on view.
Due to tides, the launch has been moved to Killybegs, and will be using the bigger boat of Atlantic Coastal Cruises. The trip will be 1-2 hours long, depending on interest. We hope you can make it for what is likely to be a highlight of the weekend. Tickets are on sale at www.killghtee.ie or from Floyd’s Mace until 24th August.
A €1 on-line booking fee applies. If you require a lift from Dunkineely/Bruckless to Killybegs, e-mail us dunkineelycommunity@gmail.com.
Treasure Hunt
Join our children’s treasure hunt. Car required. Clues will lead you around many of the fantastic sites we have in the Dunkineely, Killaghtee and Bruckless Area. Pick up your first clue at the Dunkineely Picnic Area (by the Health Centre) between 11am and 12:30. €5 per car.
Yoga and sound baths
There is a selection of free wellness sessions over the weekend.
The Rosebella and Dawn Yoga will kick off on St. John’s Beach (Trabane) at 5:45am on Saturday 26th August. Last year this surprisingly popular event ended with several taking a dip in the Atlantic. A session for the brave!
Later the same day, at 12 noon there will be Yoga in the Park (Bruckless Community Park). Get relaxed and ready for the day, before the entertainment begins at 1pm. Rosebella will finish off the day with a return of her sound bath. One of the most attended events last year. 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the park.
Then don’t miss an alternative sound bath on Sunday 27th August. From 4:30pm to 5:30pm, let Mariëlle and the gongs take you on a dreamy sound journey. Bring your mat, pillow and blankie. Events may move into the Bruckless Community and Sports Centre if the weather is bad.
Beach clean
The beach clean on 19th August is cancelled, for all the right reasons. The beach is in good shape, so the group have decided to concentrate on our preparations for the Festival.
