Another busy week for Letterkenny Athletic Club members

Letterkenny Athletic Club notes.

LAC members Fern Duffy and Kathryn McDevitt both competed in the 123.ie National League finals and both were rewarded for their efforts with medals.

Fern competed in the triple jump, the 100m, the 4 x 100m and the 4 x 400m. Kathryn competed in the 200m, 400m, 4 x 100m and the 4 x 400m.

Barry Mackey competed in the 123.ie National Masters Championships in the 1500m and the 5000m in the M60 category.

A 10 mile road race was held in Monaghan on the 13th August and club member Aidan McKenna finished in a superb time of 1:10:16. The event was sponsored by KPMG.

The Ballyare 10km road race, in its 30th year, took place on Friday 11th August and many LAC members participated. Conditions were testing and the course was challenging.

LAC member Nakita Bourke won the women’s race in a time of 34:51 while Ciaran McGonagle finished in third place in a time of 34:38, Raymond Birch in 34:47, Michael Harkin in 37:44, Kieran Crawford in 37:56, Paul Cullen 38:54, Monica McGranaghan 44:32, Manus McFadden 44:53, Naoise Enright 45:27, John Hughes 46:25, Eamon O’Boyle 46:50 and Finn Begley 49:28.

Anna Russell was racing in the Scrabo Hill race in Co. Down, a testing 4 mile hilly course. Well done Anna.

Letterkenny Athletic Club would like to extend its condolences to club member Paul O’Gara on the passing of his mother Kathleen O’Gara. Go ndéana Dia trócaire uirthi.

LAC meets Tuesday 5.15pm and at 6.30pm for an interval running session, Thursday evening for a hill run at 6pm, Saturday morning at 9.30am for a tempo run and Sunday morning at 8am for a long run.

All runs start at the Aura. All levels catered for and encouraged.

Fit 4 Life which is run by LAC in conjunction with the Donegal Sports Partnership takes place every Monday at 5.45pm on the track at the Aura Leisure Centre Letterkenny.

The aim of the programme is to reach out to those who wish to improve their fitness and all are most welcome any Monday they choose to attend.
