Rosses AC’s Eoin Boye has won the 25 Km section of the gruelling Bluestack Way Ultra Race which was held at the weekend.
Boyle, who joined Rosses a couple of years ago and has progressively been getting faster, fitter and stronger, came away with a great victory. Another local man, Eugene McCafferty also had a very strong race and finished in a very impressive 8th position. In the 50k race, the club had two athletes competing and both finished in the top ten. One is no stranger to mountains, Ken Bates, who finished in an excellent 5th place overall with Declan Gallagher pushing hard all the way to get over the line in a very strong 8th position.
Indeed, races are coming fast at this time of the year with athletes involved in many races.
There was the Ballyshannon 5k where Keith O’Connell got another race into the legs on his return to racing in 18:41.
Locally there was the Dunlewey 5k in the shadow of beautiful Errigal. Three Rosses men got sub-16, with Declan Ferry 15:28, Charlie O Donnell 15:34 and Shane O Donnell 15:42. Mark Ward put in a fine showing with a great time of 16:47 in 4th. Patrick Trimble took second in his category in 17:01. Conor Boyle 17:56, Ken Bates claimed a new PB in 18:25, Michael O Donnell 19:41, Denis Boner 19:48, Norman McClean 20:48, Seamus Ferry 20:59, Keith Boyd debuted his Rosses vest in 23:47, Michael O Donnell 24:13, Noel Boyd 24:35 and Malachy Doyle 25:23. In the ladies section Bernie Boyle has been going from strength to strength and took victory with a new PB of 19:03. Martina Mulhern was runner up in 19:56 and Cathy Breslin in 21:33.
In the Dungloe 5k, after a couple of recent runners up finishes, Shane O Donnell was to claim victory in an impressive 16:17. Mark Ward came fourth in 17:14, Patrick Trimble 17:22 and, after doing a triathlon at the weekend, Gavin Ward showed his power of recovery to run a swift 18:31. Michael O’Donnell claimed the o60 category in 20:32. Our First Lady was Bernie Boyle in 19:34, Emer Magee 22:06, Cathy Breslin 22:23 and Sarah Mulholland 22:45. There was a great turnout of ladies with some back racing for the first time in a while which is always great to see. In the Junior section, Odhran Rodgers led them home, followed closely by Tristan Greene and Evan Ward. There was a large number of local athletes and this was much appreciated.
The last race of the weekend was the Carrickfinn Coastal 10k taking in the beautiful scenery while running up and down the tough sand dunes where it was a Rosses top three with Declan Ferry, Shane O’Donnell and Charlie O’Donnell while in the ladies race it was Maria Mulligan first, Bernie Boyle second and Martina Mulhern third.
