Donegal Volunteer Centre
Donegal volunteer Centre staff will be in attendance at Raphoe Family Resource Centre on Wednesday 9th August from 10am to 1pm. Providing information to groups and organisations on the placement of volunteers, advice, training, governance and best practice and also assisting individuals, recruiting places and providing support to volunteers. Helping Hands Scheme
Do you live alone or are no longer in a position, due to age or disability, to carry out odd jobs? Raphoe Family Resource Centre, supported by DLDC Tus Scheme have a ‘Helping Hands’ project, where odd jobs can be carried out. These include grass cutting, path clearing, tidy ups, painting etc. Only outdoor work is permitted.
Unfortunately, with the increased costs of fuel and materials this service will no longer be free of charge. From Monday
3rd July there will be a €5 euro charge for all work carried out and €15 euro for power washing. If you require any additional information, please call into the FRC and speak to Marie or call 0749145796/0873641503.
Raphoe Men’s Shed
The Men’s Shed group meet every Thursday at 12 noon in “The Shed”. If you have a few hours to spare why not come along and join in! The men are planning a trip to auld Lamma’s Fair in August and have recently visited the Boardwalk in Carrigart For more info contact Marie on 0749145796/0873641503.
Family Support
As a parent or guardian, parenting is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do, however the Family Resource Centre recognises at times life throws up challenges and these can be overwhelming. Some examples of the support we can offer; making routines, establishing boundaries and dealing with challenging behaviours
The Family Resource Centre can help through listening ear, parenting programmes, one to one support, and a drop-in clinic to offer support on issues that are affecting home life. Youth Support Worker – CE scheme conditions apply
Donegal Youth Service are looking to recruit a youth Support Worker for the Family Resource Centre, Raphoe 19.5 hours per week, applicants must be 21 years and over and 1 year unemployed/receipt of a social welfare payment. Raphoe Walking Group
Raphoe Walking Group will continue to meet every Thursday morning at 10.30am in the FRC during the summer period. Come along and join the group for a walk and a cuppa.
Seniors Alert Scheme
Raphoe Family Resource Centre is registered under Pobal’s Senior Alert Scheme to provide personal alarms to those over 65 years living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. The purpose of the scheme is to enable older persons of limited means to continue to live securely in their own homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind providing them with a free personal monitored alarm which can be worn as a pendant or around their wrist like a watch. S.T.A.R.T. Project
Would you like to talk to someone about your concerns around drugs/alcohol? Free, confidential – non-judgemental service providing up to date information and practical supports, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness practices, Brief Solution Focus Therapy and the Smart Recovery Principles. Drop in Group/Individuals every Monday 10am-12pm in the Raphoe Family Resource Centre.
Letterkenny C.D.P is a community Development Project providing a Community Response to Alcohol/Drug misuse throughout Co. Donegal. They provide non-judgemental support guidance and education to drug/alcohol users, their families and the community. Contact outreach worker for the Finn Valley area, Karen Gallen on 087 388 5080.

Rainbows Programme
Rainbows Ireland provides peer group support to children and young people who have been impacted following bereavement or parental separation or a divorce. When significant change and loss happens in a family, the entire family can be affected, including children and young people. Children and young people can generally find it difficult to understand their feelings and often do not have the words to express how they feel. Rainbows provides group support for children of a similar age and loss experience. Meeting others in a similar situation can be very supportive for children and young people.
Rainbows is not a counselling group or professional therapy and is a free service. Raphoe Boxing Club
The local boxing club staged a very successful annual awards night in Friel’s Hotel on Friday night last when a large number of boxers and family friends attended. Award winners weee as follows; Taylor Parke, Tyler Keaveney, Ryley Doherty, David Tennyson and Jack Mc Elroy. The Clubs stand out 35KG’s puncher and double national schoolboy champion Taylor Parke has been selected to represent Ireland schoolboys at a 10 day training camp in Poland from 8th to 18th August and good wishes for every success goes to Taylor from all his clubmates and his coaches Gary McCullagh and Gerard Keaveney.
Raphoe Tidy Towns
Raphoe Tidy Towns have a vacancy on their Community Employment Project for a shop worker in the local SVP shop in Raphoe. Dept. of Social Protection eligibility criteria for Community Employment applies for this post. The job is part time for 19.5 hrs per week. Local History Project
Have you any old photos of the town or surrounding district? Any subject matter will be welcome to be part of the towns collection. Subjects such as weddings, community days/activities, individuals, sporting events, school photos, farming, bands, Christmas, snow, or any subject. Original photos will be scanned/copied and returned. Please call in and ask for Hilary on Mondays, Thursdays 9.30am until 4pm or Fridays. 9.30am until 3.30pm. Volt House
Everyone at The Volt House in Raphoe would like to wish Gemma Haughey, every success in the next chapter of her career. Gemma was a great asset, working closely with Tidy Towns and Raphoe Community in Action, as well as being instrumental in securing classes and events for the Suile Centre. Many tributes have been paid to Gemma, with a consistent theme of efficiency, friendliness and professionalism.
Looking Ahead, National Heritage Week will run this year from Saturday August 12th until Sunday August 20th , with some special events taking place in and around Raphoe. The Volt House will host open days form Monday August 14th until Friday 18th August, under the banner “Our Heritage in Pictures”, an exhibition of historical scenes of Raphoe and District
to include its people and rich cultural and heritage traditions. A selection of exhibits will be displayed outside (Weather permitting).
On Friday August 18th , a “Family History and Research” day will take place from 11am to 2pm in the Heritage & Tourism Hub at the Volt House, assisting people who wish to trace or find out more about their ancestry.
Also on Friday 18th August, in the Suile Centre, Raphoe Volt House Ladies, in conjunction with the “Living Heritage” theme will host a bread and butter demonstration, from 11am, demonstrating the art of making Butter and making bread/scones. Come along and try some delicious homemade bread topped with fabulous homemade butter.
On Saturday 19th August there will be a guided walking tour, “An historical stroll back to the early Monastic site and the Rath of the Huts“. This will be a walk through “The Smallest Cathedral City in Europe”, learning how it got its name, the strong political association with Raphoe and much more. Meeting at the Volt House 12 noon.
Ros Ban Wildlife Garden near Mongorry Raphoe, will be open from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday August 20th , come visit a garden with a Celtic theme, displays of medicinal plants and educational poster. A garden designed to encourage wildlife. Interesting, educational and well worth a visit.
