Local MEP Colm Markey is encouraging groups in Donegal to apply for a slice of the €47 million euro in funding for youth projects under the PEACEPLUS Youth Programme.
The money is being made available thanks to combined financial commitments from the EU, the UK and Ireland.
PEACEPLUS is the successor programme to both PEACE IV and INTERREG VA and aims to support peace and prosperity across Northern Ireland and the border counties.
It is targeted at young people aged 14-24 who are disadvantaged or marginalised and are at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour, violence or paramilitary activity.
Calls for applications are open for five schemes and the deadline for the Youth Programme is 10th August.
Midlands-North West MEP Markey is reminding groups in border counties to get their applications in soon.
“I know there are many organisations across the border region who could help make a difference and I would encourage them to make an application for funding,” he said.
The programme also extends to Cavan, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan and Sligo.
The list of bodies eligible to apply include local authorities, local development agencies, colleges, NGOs, voluntary organisations as well as SMEs and large companies.
“It’s important to point out that these groups must be able to demonstrate their capability to deliver their specific project so a lot of work must go into the application. Anyone who is interested should begin the process as soon as possible,” Markey said.
“The Special EU Programmes Body has been carrying out information sessions and is a good place to start for advice.”
