It was a long trek to the Hills of Connemara at the weekend for Ballyare rider, Patrick McGettigan, but it was well worth the journey after a gripping win.
Patrick came so close on his own 15 hander in the 153cm as Fiadh’s Fancy who looked all set to collect but was nabbed in the closing strides by the strong finish of Chancy Money for Nicola Burns.
He got his quick compensation when he landed the feature of the day the Errismore Derby on King Of The Hill in a nail biting finish. It went to VAR evidence and, after the check, it was clear that the Letterkenny owned horse was home by a slender margin.
There were also Donegal wins for Another Plan in the open mile for the Gildea’s and for the Rathmullan owned Kinnegar Bay in the 10 furlong.
All roads lead to the Dingle festival Friday 11th to Sunday the 13th for the Cheltenham of horse and pony racing.
