Man faces drugs charge after €7,000 found in Revolut account

A man set to stand trial in Letterkenny on a money laundering charge is also facing a drug dealing charge.

A book of evidence was this week served on Yann Tumama at Letterkenny District Court.

The 22-year-old, with an address at Deerpark Lodge, Castleknock Road, Dublin, will go before the Circuit Court over the sum of £7,000 located in a Revolut account in his name.

Tumama was represented by solicitor Mr Rory O’Brien.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented for Tumama to be forwarded for trial to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, which commences on October 17, 2023.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham made a return for trial order and administered the alibi warning. A section 56 order, relating to tapes of interviews, was also made.

Legal aid was granted to Mr O’Brien and one legal counsel was assigned.

Tumama’s bail terms were altered with the accused now to sign on at Blanchardstown Garda Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Tumama is charged that in May 2021, he engaged in converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that was the proceeds of criminal conduct, to with 7,000 sterling being credited to a Revolut account in the name of Yann Tumama while knowing that or being reckless as to whether or not the said property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

The charge is contrary to the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act, 2010.

Tumama also faces a charge of possessing a controlled drug, namely cocaine, for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying to others, at Riverside Apartments, Pearse Road, Letterkenny, on May 26, 2022.

This matter was adjourned to October 23 as directions from the DPP are to be clarified.
