Inishowen is set for a major boost after confirmation that a multi-million euro development has been secured for social housing.
Following a query from Donegal Daily, local developer GDC (Irl) Ltd confirmed its 58-unit Cluain Darach estate in Carndonagh will be acquired by an approved housing body. Despite recent speculation, the houses will not be sold to speculators.
The man behind the development, Mr Daniel Doherty, confirmed the news this evening.
“We are aware of recent press speculation surrounding our company’s housing development in Carndonagh,” he explained.
“We can now confirm that, following several expressions of interest, the company has concluded negotiations with a major Approved Housing Body to acquire the entire development of 58 housing units for social housing. This is great news for the town of Carndonagh and the wider Inishowen area.”
It is hoped the first 29 units will be fully occupied in approximately three or four months’ time, with the remainder due for completion by the middle of next year.

“This is great news for anyone on the housing list with the prospect of being in a new home for Christmas,” Mr Doherty added.
“We are equally delighted and excited to have attracted this major new client and look forward to beginning what will hopefully be a long-lasting working relationship in this and our many other planned developments in the future.”
Muff-based GDC (Irl) Ltd is considered to have a reputation for delivering high quality housing in Donegal for almost a quarter of a century.
It is a major employer in the Inishowen and Letterkenny areas and is described as a ‘very solid supporter of the local supply chain’ all over the north west.
“We are currently involved in the delivery of one of Letterkenny’s finest and most sought after developments – Crieve Mor Avenue at Crievesmith in Letterkenny,” their website boasts.
