A fund has been set up to help repatriate the body of a popular young Letterkenny resident back to his native country.
Married father of one, Michael Yecyec from the Philippines, passed away suddenly on Wednesday at Letterkenny University Hospital. An employee of the Quiet Moment Tearooms, he leaves behind his grieving wife Elizabeth, and four-month-old son James.
A statement from his employers said he was a “valued member of our kitchen staff and was an exceptional member of our team.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up by his sister, Charmaine Rhoda Yecyec, to help with the huge costs of repatriating his remains back to his home country. In less than a day, more than €3,200 of the €20,000 target has been raised.
“It is with a heavy heart that I am setting up this fundraiser for my brother Michael Yecyec who passed away on the 19th of July after suffering a cardiac arrest on the ward, leaving my family utterly devastated and heartbroken,” she said.
“However, due to the sudden nature of his passing, we are struggling to cover the expenses associated with transporting his remains to the Philippines. The cost of repatriation is significant, and we are appealing to our community to help us raise funds needed to bring my brother back home.”
Donations can be made via the GoFundMe page.
