A Christmas market for Buncrana is to be discussed at Monday’s July sitting of Donegal County Council.
Sinn Fein’s Jack Murray has put forward a motion about the possibility of such an attraction for the town’s Swan Park.
“I know it’s the middle of July, and way too early to even be talking about Christmas,” Cllr Murray explained.
“But, given the success of recent events in Swan Park, I think it’d be an incredible place to host a Christmas Market – and would generate a huge influx of visitors for such a unique experience.”
Cllr Murray said he has discussed the issue with a number of people and have decided to move a motion at Monday’s full council meeting to seek support from other councillors.
He wants the council executive to reach out to local businesses, community organisations, Fáilte Ireland, Donegal Tourism, Explore Inishowen, Local Development Companies and all other relevant stakeholders to help facilitate the hosting of a Christmas Market at Swan Park.
“It’d be a huge boost to the local economy and an enjoyable day out for local families. It might be ambitious to see this happen in 2023 (though that’d be great) but I think it’s definitely got potential for the years ahead,” he concluded.
