Family Resource Centre summer holiday closures

Community Garda drop-in clinic
The Community Garda Drop In will take place on Thursday 20th July between 6pm-7pm. If you need passport/forms signed/stamped or information or guidance, feel free to call in. No appointment necessary.
Autumn/winter
Up and coming courses will include Art, Crochet, Zumba, (subject to funding) Women’s Health & Social Inclusion Programme, ASIST – Applied suicide intervention skills training. Keep an eye on the Facebook page/Raphoe notes in the weeks ahead for more details.
Donegal Volunteer Centre
Donegal volunteer Centre staff will be in attendance at Raphoe Family Resource Centre on Wednesday 9th August from 10.00am to 1pm. Providing information to groups and organisations on the placement of volunteers, advice, training, governance and best practice and also assisting individuals, recruiting places and providing support to volunteers. Helping Hands scheme
Raphoe Family Resource Centre, supported by DLDC Tus Scheme have a helping hands project where odd jobs can be carried out such as grass cutting, path clearing, tidy ups, painting etc. Only outdoor work is permitted. Unfortunately, with the increased costs of fuel and materials this service is no longer free of charge. From Monday 3rd July there will be a €5 euro charge for all work carried out and €15 euro for power washing. Raphoe Men’s Shed
The Men’s Shed group meet every Thursday at 12 Noon in “The Shed”. If you have a few hours to spare why not come along and join in! The men are planning a trip to auld Lamma’s Fair in August and have recently visited the Boardwalk in Carrigart. For more info contact Marie on 0749145796/0873641503.
Family Support
As a parent or guardian, parenting is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do, however the Family Resource Centre recognises at times life throws up challenges and these can be overwhelming. Some examples of the support offered; making routines, establishing boundaries and dealing with challenging behaviours.
The Family Resource Centre can help through listening ear, parenting programmes, one to one support, and a drop-in clinic to offer support on issues that are affecting home life. Youth Support Worker – CE scheme conditions apply
Donegal Youth Service are looking to recruit a youth Support Worker for the Family Resource Centre, Raphoe 19.5 hours per week, applicants must be 21 years and over and 1 year unemployed/receipt of a social welfare payment. Raphoe Walking Group
Raphoe Walking Group will continue to meet every Thursday morning at 10.30am at the FRC during the summer period. Come along and join the group for a walk and a cuppa!
Seniors Alert Scheme
Raphoe Family Resource Centre is registered under Pobal’s Senior Alert Scheme to provide personal alarms to those over 65 years living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household. The purpose of the scheme is to enable older persons of limited means to continue to live securely in their own homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind providing them with a free personal monitored alarm which can be worn as a pendant or around their wrist like a watch.

S.T.A.R.T. Project
Would you like to talk to someone about your concerns around drugs/alcohol? Free, confidential – non-judgemental service providing up to date information and practical supports, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness practices, Brief Solution Focus Therapy and the Smart Recovery Principles. Drop in Group/Individuals every Monday 10am-12pm in the Raphoe Family Resource Centre.
Letterkenny C.D.P is a community Development Project providing a Community Response to Alcohol/Drug misuse throughout Donegal. They provide non-judgemental support guidance and education to drug/alcohol users, their families and the community. Rainbows Programme
Rainbows Ireland provides peer group support to children and young people who have been impacted following bereavement or parental separation or a divorce. When significant change and loss happens in a family, the entire family can be affected, including children and young people. Children and young people can generally find it difficult to understand their feelings and often do not have the words to express how they feel.
Rainbows provides group support for children of a similar age and loss experience. Meeting others in a similar situation can be very supportive for children and young people. It is a free service and is not a counselling group or professional therapy.

Raphoe Boxing Club
Raphoe boxer David Tennyson lost out at the quarter final stages of the National Senior Cadet Championships in Dublin on Friday night last. The Raphoe Club’s Annual Awards night will take place on Friday night next, 21st July 2023, in Friel’s Hotel at 8pm and all club members are very welcome to attend. The club is now closed for a well deserved break for all the boxers and hardworking coaches Gary McCullagh and Gerard Keaveney. The club will re-open in early September.
Raphoe Tidy Towns
Raphoe Tidy Towns have a vacancy on their Community Employment Project for a Shop worker in the local SVP shop in Raphoe. Department of Social Protection eligibility criteria for Community Employment applies for this post. The job is part time for 19.5 hrs per week. Local History Project
Have you any old photos of the town or surrounding district? Any subject matter will be welcome to be part of the town’s collection. Subjects such as weddings, community days/activities, individuals, sporting events, school photos, farming, bands, Christmas, snow, or any subject. Volt House
Tuesday 18th July, was a very special day in the Volt House, with the Derry Walkers on the pilgrimage to Knock, stopping off for refreshment on their walk from Derry to Knock Shrine.
National Heritage Week 2023, will be from Saturday August 12th until Sunday August 20th. Raphoe Volt House will be having open days from Monday August 14th until Friday August 18th, 11am – 2pm, ‘Our Heritage in Pictures’, Scenes of Raphoe and its People. This will be an opportunity to visit the Volt House, and view pictures from a bygone era, with part of the exhibition being outside (weather permitting). On Friday 18th August from 11am to 2pm they will be hosting a Family History and Research Day.
They will have an expert on hand to advise people on researching their family ancestry, a great way to find out your past and heritage.
Also as part of this years Heritage Week, whose theme is ‘Living Heritage’, which centres around the practices, knowledge and skills that have been passed from one generation to the next, The Volt House Ladies, will be hosting a ‘Bread and Butter’ making demonstration, to take place in the Suile Centre on Friday ~August 18th. The ladies will demonstrate the art of butter making, and also bread/scone making, and conclude with a delicious tasting.
