A man accused of the rape and murder of Donegal woman Danielle McLaughlin in India has been denied bail.
The High Court has also directed that the trial of Vikat Bhagat is expedited and concluded within a year.
Bhagat has been on trial since 2018.
Ms McLaughlin, aged 28, was found dead in a secluded spot in Canacona, an area of Goa popular with holidaymakers, on March 14, 2017. Her family continues to fight for justice.
Goa-based media report that the High Court denied Bhagat’s latest bail application due to his criminal record and behaviour, which has prolonged the trial.
