Bonagee United senior ladies are set to be honoured by the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District for their achievements in the Amateur Cup.
A civic reception was proposed by Mayor Kevin Bradley after the squad reached the FAI Women’s Amateur Cup final on Saturday.
Despite the team suffering defeat to Terenure Rangers, their progression to a national final inspired all who followed their journey.
The Letterkenny team has become a force to be reckoned with, having also made it to FAI Intermediate Cup semi-final level this year.
And in 2022 they won the League and Cup double, reached the semi-finals of the FAI Intermediate Cup and played in the first round of the Womens FAI Senior Cup.
Despite the defeat on Saturday, Chris McNulty, his management team and players’ achievements have not only brought pride to their club and community but have also helped to raise the profile of women’s football in the region.
A date for the civic reception will be announced in due course.
Before that, the Bonagee ladies have another big cup game against Sligo Rovers Women’s team in the FAI Women’s Cup in a few weeks’ time.
