Tributes have been paid from across the northwest following the sad passing of an eleven-year-old schoolgirl, Holly Gormley.
Holly from Strabane died on Saturday, five months after being diagnosed with aplastic anaemia.
The St Catherine’s Primary School student became unwell in February with spells of fatigue and unexplained bruises on her body.
Her family launched a desperate search for stem cell donors at the time and never gave up as Holly’s illness progressed.
On Saturday evening, Holly’s school posted a tribute to her, describing her as their “special angel” and a “precious Year 7 pupil”.
“We ask everyone to keep Holly, her mummy (Mrs Claire Gormley), her daddy, her brother, her family and the whole school family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly sad and difficult time,” the tribute said.
People across Tyrone, East Donegal and beyond have been changing their social media profile pictures to Holly to remember her short but beautiful life.
Castlefin Councillor Gary Doherty shared this message from Holly’s family: “For anyone that wishes to, please temporarily change your Facebook profile to Holly. You are under no obligation, however the world needs to know who she was and still will always be to us.”
