There was relief in east Donegal this week after it was confirmed the short-term future of a local Naíonra has been secured.
It had been feared that Naíonra an Choimín in the Glenfin Gaeltacht would be forced to close due a drop in numbers.
However the chairperson of the group, which had been based at the old Ballykerrigan school, confirmed yesterday that sufficient numbers of children have been enrolled for the coming school year.
“Naíonra an Choimín would like to extend their thanks to all the parents who have come forward and enrolled their children for the upcoming school year, commencing on the 30th of August 2023,” they said.
“The future of Naíonra an Choimín has been secured and improved due to the tremendous support given by the local community,” the chairperson added.
A Naíonra is an Irish-medium pre-school in which a Stiúrthóir, or leader, speaks only Irish while interacting with the children who are usually between 3 and 5 years of age.
Naíonra an Choimín, currently located in Ballykerrigan school, will be relocating their service to Coimín National School (main pic) in early Autumn. An extended service, 9am – 2pm will now be available from the 30th of August.
Enrolments are still open for the upcoming school year 2023/2024.
