Gweedore priest Fr Brian Ó’Fearraigh is going to have his famous mop of curly hair and beard clipped for a great cause this September.
The popular priest is no stranger to a close shave in the name of charity.
This time he’s teaming up with Selkie swimmer Maighreád Gallagher to raise funds for a very special local boy, Oisin Campbell from Derrybeg.
Eight-year-old Oisin, the son of Cathal and Fionnuala Campbell, was born with a rare chromosomal abnormality. He is under palliative care requires nursing support 24 hours a day and is oxygen dependent.
Yet, he is one of the happiest children, always so content and smiling. His bravery was recognised by gardaí in 2021 when they make him a Little Blue Hero, and an Honorary member of the Bunbeg force.
Oisin and his family are about to move into their new home, however there will be significant costs involved with installing a fit-for-purpose bedroom with all the specialised medical equipment that Oisin requires.
To support the Campbells, Fr. Brian O Fearraigh and Maighreád Gallagher have both agreed to a headshave in September. The local Swim group Na Selkies, which Oisín’s mum Fionnuala is a member of, will undertake a Snorkle/ Swim to Inis Meain or Inis Oirthear. The challenge will be followed by a Sausage Sizzle afterwards on the 22nd September.
Locations of each challenge will be confirmed closer to the time.
People are asked to support the cause by donating whatever they can to : https://gofund.me/b0b86ce3
