Two people have been remanded in custody for their part in an alleged hijacking incident.
Seamus Donaghey and Bridget Mongan were stopped in a car at Manorcunningham following the incident and arrested.
They have been in custody in the Republic of Ireland since June 16.
Donaghey, a 20-year-old whose address was given as no fixed abode, and Mongan, aged 22 and of Foyle Road, Derry, were brought before Letterkenny District Court on Tuesday.
Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are not yet available, the court heard.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins informed the court that, as there is a cross-border element to the matter, given the alleged taking of the vehicle in Derry, they would have to liaise with their colleagues in the PSNI before a file is submitted.
Donaghey has been charged with unlawfully using a vehicle without the consent of the owner.
Mongan has been charged with, while being a person who knew that the vehicle was taken without the consent of the owner, did allow herself to be carried in the vehicle without consent. Morgan was on bail from charges in Northern Ireland.
It is alleged that a call was made to a takeaway delivery person in Derry. When the person came to the appointed address to deliver the food, they arrived at a derelict address.
The vehicle was ‘forcibly’ seized from the driver. The car fled the scene, but was detected in Donegal a short time later and the two were arrested after what was described as a ‘short pursuit’.
The pair were arrested when they were stopped on the N13 at Raymoghey, Manorcunningham on June 16.
Solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher, who is representing both Donaghey and Mongan, said he was ‘strongly opposing’ a two-week adjournment on the matter.
“My clients are here on the belief that it would be dealt with,” Mr Gallagher said. “Given the overall context here, there should be some sort of priority.
“Some priority has to be given when it’s not on the higher scale out here. Here, you have a car that was stopped with two people in it. There was no accident, nothing; it was stop.”
Sergeant Jim Collins said the case was one that still requires directions from the DPP. “All we can do is express that it is urgent,” Sergeant Collins said.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham remanded the two in custody until July 17 when they will appear via video link.
Donaghey was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison. Mongan was remanded in custody to the Dóchas Centre at Mountjoy Prison.
