A court has been told that a young man who was found face down on the ground slurring his words with no shoes on needs help.
Adam Dowling appeared at Letterkenny District Court after he was arrested for his own safety.
The court was told the 24-year-old was found by Gardai at Oliver Plunkett Road in Letterkenny on May 13th at 2am.
Dowling was taken to Letterkenny Garda Station but later released and a Fixed Penalty Notice for €60 was issued but has gone unpaid.
Dowling’s solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, said his client had a troubled existence in that he suffered from anxiety and low moods and was somewhat dysfunctional with his everyday life.
“He is working part-time and he clearly over-indulged. There was an altercation which ended with his foes stealing his shoes,” said Mr Dorrian.
He added that Dowling clearly suffers from mental health issue and described him as quiet and a gentle-spoken being.
In fact, Mr Dorrian added that a previous court directed that Dowling engage with the mental health services.
A spokesperson for the Probation Services said Mr Dowling had engaged with them but his attendance was sporadic and he was due to meet them again this week.
Judge Brendan O’Reilly adjourned the case to October 23rd to se how Dowling engages with the various services.
