The volunteer crew at Lough Swilly RNLI successfully carried out a marathon nine-hour rescue yesterday morning.
They were paged at 8.13am to come to the assistance of a fishing vessel with five people onboard which was 25 nautical miles off Malin Head.
The boat had developed mechanical problems and they contacted Malin Head Coast Guard for help.
The lifeboat volunteers established a tow and took the boat to safety, before returning to Buncrana to refuel and make ready for service.
“Remember, if you’re in difficulty in or on the water or see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard,” an RNLI spokesperson said.
