Donegal teenager Rhys Irwin has been selected as a wild card to race at World Superbikes at Donnington next week.
The Kilmacrenan native is on the crest of a wave racing in the Premier Class at British Superbikes on his Astro JJR Suzuki, having secured his first win in the class last week at Knockhill in Scotland.
He had previously won 6 podium finishes in this class.
This week Rhys got the green light he was dreaming of; a wild card at the UK round in Donington of World Superbikes in the supersport class next week.
“It really is every racers dream to be in the World Superbikes or MotoGP paddock,” Rhys said.
“But now that it is happening for me to be in the WSB paddock.
“I am so grateful for the belief my team has in me and for this opportunity that doesn’t come around too often.
“All my dedication and training over the last few years is paying off.
“I have to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to all the people that support me without whom I wouldn’t be able to compete in the sport that I love.”
