Brave Donegal woman Geraldine Mullan has been given a top award but immediately dedicated it to her late husband and children.
Geraldine was announced as the winner of the ‘Inspirational Woman’ award at the Families First NI Awards at the Titanic Hotel in Belfast.
Geraldine tragically lost her husband John as well as children Tomás and Amelia in a tragic accident in August, 2020.
The family were returning home from a day out in Derry when their car accidentally left the road and entered Lough Foyle at Quigley’s Point.
Geraldine was rescued from the roof of the car by passers-by.
Since the tragedy Geraldine has set up the Mullan Hope Centre which is a non-profit centre of well-being based at her husband’s gardening business in the Inishowen town of Moville.
Inspirational Geraldine said she was “humbled and honoured” to pick up the award at the Families First NI event.
However, she said that the award was for her late family.
“John, Tomás and Amelia…..everything I do, I do it because of you and for you….love you to the sun, moon and stars,” she said.
