A mythical mural has been completed in Ballyshannon town centre in tribute to poet and scholar William Allingham.
The mural, which was created by artist Ciarán Dunlevy, was created on The Mall, where Allingham was born in 1824. The house still bears a plaque to Alligham’s memory.
The intriguing art depicts ‘The Fairies’, one of Allingham’s most famous poems. It is still taught to children in schools today.
Dunlevy planned the mural to contain different illustrations merged together to suit the poem. Within the art is a tribute to the great illustrator Arthur Rackham.
Eagled-eyed viewers are being told to study the mural carefully for hidden images. What do you see?
Dunlevy said he absolutely loved working on “one of the most quirky buildings painting the magic people” in Ireland’s oldest town.
The art was commissioned by the Donegal County Council Heritage section, with thanks to Louis Culkin of Ballyshannon Shoe Co. for offering the wall and support with the project.
