An updated ‘Orange’ thunderstorm warning has been issued for Donegal as ESB crews work to restore power to more homes and businesses hit by outages.
The warning has come into effect as ESB crews work to restore power to more than 1,000 customers, mainly in the Ballybofey area, homes hit by outages caused by today’s storms.
Customers are also without power in Gweedore and Dunfanaghy. However, the ESB hopes to have power restored in all areas this evening.
Met Éireann issued the warning for Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, which will be in place until 10pm tonight.
The forecaster says that thunderstorms will bring frequent lightning, heavy downpours, gusty winds and the chance of hail, as well as the possibility of localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.
It comes while a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is in effect for Munster, Connacht and nine other counties, including Donegal.
Elsewhere, the UK Met Office has issued a Yellow thunderstorm warning for Antrim, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry from midday to 9pm.
