Donegal County Council has been asked to paint yellow boxes on the Kiltoy Roundabout in Letterkenny.
Cllr Donal Coyle said there was no doubt about the need for measures to ease blockages at peak times.
Speaking at this week’s municipal district meeting, Cllr Coyle said the volume of traffic coming from the Kiltoy direction in particular is creating congestion problems for motorists travelling out the Ramelton Road. Cllr Coyle said that a yellow box would force cars to stay back and allow other vehicles turn off to various routes, such as Gortlee and the Business Park Road.
Donegal County Council said that the roundabout is a national road and therefore falls under the responsibility of the TII. The request for a yellow box is now set to be forwarded to the NRDO signs and lines Section to assess and if considered appropriate to be included in their works programme.
The council is also set to look into similar measures for the Knocknamona roundabout at the top of the Business Park Road (adjacent to Optum).
