Letterkenny Gaels 5K road race
Letterkenny Gaels held their 5km road race last week and many LAC members took part. Michael Harkin was the first club member to cross the line in 17:44 followed by Liam Tinney in a time of 18:15, Cian Friel in 18:25, Eimear Wiseman 19:46, Colly O’Donnell in 20:02, Callum Keaveny in 20:12, Gary Kearns in 21:12, Paul Sweeney 21:40, Marie Boyle 22:22, Richard Raymond 25:03, Danielle Mulhern 28:47.
South Africa Comrades Marathon
In international news, club member Caitriona Jennings finished 5th in the Comrades Marathon, an 55 mile ultra marathon in South Africa. Caitriona completed the gruelling race in 6:10:27 maintaining an average pace of 4:13min/km, a fantastic achievement marking Caitriona’s place in the history books of athletics on a local, national and international level.
UCD Irish Milers Club
UCD Irish Milers Club hosted a meet on the 9th June and club member John McCallion won first place in the 3000m in a remarkable time of 8:37:36 amongst very strong competition while Eoin Kelly ran a superb time in the 400m of 49:72 claiming third place.
Lifford Strabane Half Marathon
In the Lifford Strabane Half Marathon on the 11th June LAC featured strongly. Philip McHugh won the race in a time of 1:15:29 while Claire McGuigan secured second place in the women’s race in a time of 1:19:28. Barry Mackey ran 1:30:42, Chris McMenamin 1:51:59 and Martin O’Donnell in 2:01:55.
Manus Peoples Retirement
LAC would like to extend best wishes and congratulations to Manus Peoples, father of club member Sinead George nee Peoples on his retirement from An Post and with more time on his hands we look forward to seeing Manus joining Sinead at our club’s running events in the future.
Hill Run
LAC meets Tuesday at 6.30pm for an interval running session, Thursday evening for a hill run at 6pm, Saturday morning at 9.30am for a tempo run and Sunday morning at 8am for a long run.
All runs start at the Aura. All levels catered for and encouraged.
Fit 4 Life
Fit 4 Life which is run by LAC in conjunction with the Donegal Sports Partnership takes place every Monday at 5.45pm on the track at the Aura Leisure Centre Letterkenny. The aim of the programme is to reach out to those who wish to improve their fitness and all are most welcome any Monday they choose to attend. Fit 4 Life is not about speed but fitness and the coaches from LAC particularly welcome newcomers.
