Excitement is building for Cruinniú na nÓg, the annual day of free creativity for children and young people, this Saturday 10th June.
This year Donegal will become a hive of creativity for children and young people aged 0-18 years at locations across the county.
Cruinniú na nÓg is the brainchild of the Creative Ireland Programme and is organised locally by Donegal County Council’s Culture & Creativity team. The day aims to provide children and young people with free creative opportunities for making and doing.
Speaking on behalf of the Culture and Creativity Team, Acting County Librarian & Culture Division Manager with Donegal County Council, Maureen Kerr, said: ‘We are delighted to bring the 6th Cruinniú na nÓg to Donegal which is packed full of exciting creative opportunities for children and young people. The programme was designed in consultation with children and young people from across the county and we would like to extend a huge thank you to the members of Donegal Youth Council for assisting.’
‘Some of the events require booking, and there’s still time to book a place for many of our exciting free workshops such as a story and art workshop in Kilcar, pottery in Bundoran, a creative writing workshop in a railway carriage in Donegal Town, a bounce clay workshop in Fintown, drama workshops at the Balor, Ballybofey, an art workshop in Magheroarty, a creative sea exploration at Fanad Lighthouse, a creative expression workshop at Cara House, Letterkenny, bi-lingual circus and music fun in Muff and Malin Head, sewing and art workshops in Carndonagh or take part in ‘A Play in A Day’ in Buncrana.’
‘We anticipate that these free workshops will book up very quickly, so visit wainfest.ie and book your child’s place today. We encourage families to make the most these wonderful opportunities.’
There will also be plenty of opportunities to turn up and take part on the day without booking. Events which do not require booking include An Grianán Youth Theatre’s ‘Snack box Theatre’ pop up show in the eatery at intervals between 1pm and 4pm. World-Wide Voices, from Donegal Youth Service will showcase a dramatised play at The Loft, Letterkenny at 2pm. Moville Tidy Towns will have Woodland Crafts at the Green in Moville between 2pm and 4pm. Explore Donegal Railway Heritage Centre in Donegal Town for free between 10am and 4pm on the day. Complete your Cruinniú experience that evening with Live Music by Adore, Polxroid & Arn in a free all-ages concert at the Regional Cultural Centre from 7pm.
