Tributes flow as Fr Paddy says his last mass in Kilmacrennan

Tributes have flowed in for Fr Paddy Dunne after he said his last mass as Parish Priest in Kilmacrennan.

Mass-goers turned out in the droves for the Letterkenny-born priest who has been at St Columba’s for the past 13 years.

There was huge disappointment in the parish recently when Fr Dunne was listed to be transferred to Ballyshannon.

Local parishioners signed a petition with more than 2,000 signatures in a bid to encourage Bishop Alan McGuckian to reconsider his transfer.

They also held a candle-lit vigil outside the church at which hundreds of people gathered and prayed.

However, it is understood that Fr Paddy then decided that he would transfer to Ballyshannon.

Messages flowed in on the parish’s Facebook page earlier.

Sarah McKinney said “God bless you Fr Paddy. You’re going to be missed so much. Good luck to you in your new parish.”
