One of Donegal’s best-known Gardai has retired after a lifetime of service to the community.
Tributes were paid this week to John Harkin who retired from his post at the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.
John has served for 40 years, 37 of which were spent in the Donegal Division and 3 in the Sligo/Leitrim Division.
He has been at the coalface of Garda investigation in Donegal for many years where he attended the scenes of many unfortunate incidents.
This week his colleagues at Letterkenny Garda Station bid farewell to the popular Garda and even sent him on his way with a slice of cake.
A spokesperson said “We wish John all the very best in the future and we hope that he and his family have good health & happiness in the years ahead.”
