In another action-packed weekend, Donegal Motor Club members were competing all over Ireland and the UK.
Rock & Rolling at the Jim Clark for top Donegal Crew
Donegal young guns Kyle Mc Bride from Inishowen and Liam Mc Intyre headed to the Duns of the Scottish border for Round 2 of their BRC Campaign, the first Tarmac round of the championship.
It was a very eventful day for the Donegal Crew with the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy Driver rolling his Fiesta on the second stage after a delayed start which meant his tires got cold. Luckily for a 5th gear high speed roll both the crew & the car were shaken but not out.
Some on site repairs got them back to service where Kyles faithful Donegal service crew with the help of Dom Buckley got them back on the road for the 2 day rally winning an impressive 4 out of 6 on stage on Saturday in their class meaning they eventually finished 2nd in Junior BRC Crew.
Donegal crew turns up the heat in Cavan
With less than a month to go to this year’s Donegal International Rally, this year’s Cavan Rally was one of the final shakedowns.
Donegal Motor Club had crews in most of the classes and pushing for wins all day. The big headline of the day was Mark Alcorn going off with new Navigator Denver Rafferty on stage 5 coming to a sudden stop. While the crew needed medical attention spirits seem high today & the pressure will be on with the Ronhill backed Alcorn motorsport team & Sharkey Motorsport to get the car & crew to the start line in June as one of the favourites for this year’s modified title.
Staying with the Modifieds Donegal Kevin Eves had to fight to the very last stage to win the modified by 0.1 of a second over Donegal adopted Daniel McKenna.
It was every bit as close at the very front with Donegal International favourites Josh Moffet and Callum Devine battling all day. Josh had got the jump on Callum in the early stages but Donegal Club man Callum Devine fought back all day to go into the final stage with less than 3 seconds between the top crews.
The final stage was a tense showdown with a large crowd of supporters gathered for both crews but it wasn’t to be for Callum Deveine with a small overshoot costing him the overall win on the final stage. A great bit of rallying all day adds to the excitement of what lays ahead in Donegal.
There was no shortage of other top Donegal men at the top with Kilamcrenan Navigator finishing 3rd with Desi Henry, 5th was Donegal Town’s David Kelly back after an off in West Cork. Declan Boyle in his new C3 rally 2 finished ahead of his Son Micheal Boyle with Dermot Mc Cafferty calling the notes a Polo. Donegal Town Postman Paddy Mc Crudden finished 12th calling the notes in Jason Mitchell’s Polo.
Garry Jennings and Rory Kennedy dropped down the field after a puncture ruined their drive in the later stages of the day. Dean O Sullivan finished 20th calling the notes for Monaghan Man Michael Carbin.
Gareth Irwin with Donegal navi Justin Mc Cauley had a good day in Cavan winning Class 13. Rally 4 Fiesta crew of Ryan Mac Hugh and Declan Boyle also had a massive battle all day in Class 2 finishing 2nd with an overshoot costing them the class win by a mere 0.8 of a second with another Donegal crew Dylan Eves just 2.6 secs behind in 3rd place.
Finishing off the Top 30 was Dungloes John Bonner with Letterkennys Johnny Baird in 29th with Mountcharles crew of Johnny Jordan and Terrance Furey in 30th.
Other Donegal Crews to note were the new pairing of Mark Boyle just back from Oz and new naviagtor Trisha Greavy out for a shakedown in Marty Toners Hired Red Mk2 Escort ahead of Donegal. Glebe builders Darragh Kelly in his new build Grey Mk2 Escort.
Inishowen man but now local Cavan man and stage sponsor Kevin Wilson finished 60th over all with his young navigator Inishowen woman Katie Wilson in the BDM Motorsport ran Hyundai R5.
Kilmacrenan brothers JP & John Logue finished ahead of Damien Cullen & Danny Cannons Honda Civic the years of experience showing. In between the civics was Frosses man Rory Thomas with Stephen Furey back calling the notes after a good few years away. The story is they were late out of service because of a clutch change but rumour has it Furey was up the road pricing a job and lost his notes.
In the juniors Mountcharles Driver Jordan Jervis and James Mc Breatry finished an impressive 2nd place in a highly competitive class.
Dungloes Jordan Greene was also out for a Donegal warm up with Tony Curran on the notes. Cressloughs Conor Carroll finished 80th overall. Finishing in Rally 2 was Dungloe Patrick Mc Hugh and Pauric O Donnell after visiting some of Cavans scenery. Also finishing up in rally 2 was the Mathew Boyle in his Mc Caffertys Bar fiesta.
Non finishers were Seimi Brown on Stage 2 with broken Crown Wheel. Also Conor Wilson and Sean Marsh failed to finish in their blue fiesta. Also missing on the final results were Shane Mc Fadden and Shane Sweeney.
