Young athletes made great achievements at the Donegal Community Games National Finals in Meath and Kildare last weekend.
On Saturday, athletics and basketball were held in Meath and the weather was amazing. Donegal athletes ran well but just missed out on medals. However, managers Sean McGinley and Micheal Logue were delighted with the performances.
Basketball was played in the late morning with two teams: U16 girls and U11 mixed. Both lost in the semi-finals by a short margin but both ended up with bronze medals. Managers Bernie Gallagher, Siobhan McGee, and Una Sweeney were delighted with the way their teams played on the day.
Finally, on Sunday in Kildare, U13 girls’ indoor football, with managers Marty McAteer and Una Sweeney knowing their team was strong, won their semi-final against Sligo 4-2 but lost the final to Kerry in a very close game, which ended 4-1.
County Manager Manus O’Donnell wanted to congratulate all competitors who travelled from Donegal and said everyone who qualified for a National final are all winners and that they did their county proud.
He also wanted to thank all managers, volunteers, and parents for their help over the weekend.
We would also like to thank our sponsors for their support.
