It was a ‘Special K’ today for two Donegal road running brothers.
Finn Valley AC’s Gerard and Barry Gallagher won the 5K and 10K races respectively at the Colm Horkan Memorial Run in Charlestown, County Mayo, this morning.
From Crossroads, Killygordon, Gerard crossed the line in an impressive 16:57 while older brother, Barry, ran a fast 36:15 to finish over a minute ahead of second placed Robert Malseed.
The memorial run was held in honour of the late Detective Garda Colm Horkan.
The Mayo man was shot dead by Stephen Silver in Castlerea in June 2020, with Silver found guilty of capital murder earlier this year.
The event was set up to honour the Charlestown native three years ago and is organised by East Mayo Athletics Club together with Charlestown Sarsfields GAA.
