There has been a renewed call for signage to promote a dog leash policy at Swan Park Buncrana.
Dogs running loose have created some problems in the park, according to local councillor Rena Donaghey.
Cllr Donaghey said that a number of people who are afraid of dogs cannot visit the park anymore because there are so many dogs off-leash.
The matter was raised at April’s meeting of the Inishowen Municipal District. Cllr Donaghey had asked for signs at the entrances to Swan Park to remind dog owners to keep their pets under control.
Cllr Donaghey sought an update on the proposed measures again today at the May meeting.
“It’s not hard to keep a dog on a leash to let everyone enjoy the park,” Cllr Donaghey said.
The matter is set to be referred to the litter warden supervisor.
Today’s meeting also heard a call from Cllr Martin Farren asking that the dog bins be upgraded on the Buncrana shorefront, while Cllr Terry Crossan made a query for dog bins at each end of the new Muff greenway.
