Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty has welcomed the commitment given by the Minister for Enterprise that financial supports will be introduced for businesses using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and kerosene oil.
Speaking today, Deputy Doherty said: “For months I and Sinn Féin have been calling for financial support to be rolled out for businesses that rely on LPG and oil to meet their energy needs.
“This includes many businesses here in Donegal, who have been locked out of financial support through the Temporary Business Energy Support Scheme.
“That businesses relying on LPG and oil have been locked out of support while businesses using metered gas and electricity have been included, is deeply unfair.”
This week, the Minister for Enterprise confirmed to Louise O’Reilly TD that a scheme to provide supports for these businesses will be introduced in the coming weeks.
“While this has been far too slow, with Donegal businesses struggling with rising energy costs, it is welcome,” Doherty said.
“I will continue to engage with the Government to ensure this scheme works for businesses in Donegal.”
