The Youthreach programme in Lifford is to close after more than 20 years due to accommodation issues, it has been announced.
Donegal ETB confirmed that the training centre, which was located on the Diamond, will close in June due to circumstances outside of their control.
A lack of suitable properties in the area has forced the programme to amalgamate with the Letterkenny centre.
“We hope to return to Lifford in the coming years once suitable accommodation has been sourced,” a spokesperson said.
Youthreach has been provided in Lifford for the past two decades, offering training and work experience opportunities to early school leavers aged 16-20. The course is a stepping stone to further education, training and careers.
The centre in Lifford has been a vibrant hub of education, projects and support for young people in the area.
A statement from Donegal ETB said: “For now, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has worked with us over the past twenty years and helped make the programme a success in the town and Finn Valley area.
“We will be having a final awards and prize giving in the centre on Friday 23 June which past students and residents from the community are more than welcome to attend for tea / coffee and treats from 11.00am to say goodbye.”
