Music will be sounding out across Letterkenny this weekend as the Donegal Fleadh 2023 returns.
A packed schedule of sessions and competitions has been planned across local venues, promising an exciting weekend of music and culture.
The committee of Comhaltas Leitir Ceanainn are delighted to host the County Fleadh this year. Over the weekend there will be many competitions and sessions to attend. You can pick up a program at the Letterkenny Community Centre, Dillons Hotel, The Silver Tassie and Frame Master on the Canal Road, or search Fleadh Lk on social platforms. (See below for the schedule and times).
Joe Gibson (Fleadh Chairperson) said: “Excitement is building in the air, the school season draws to a close and competitions are upon us. I, along with everyone here in the Letterkenny Fleadh committee and branch are working hard to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. We wish you Ábh-Mór.”
Joe added: “My advice to all young competitors coming to the Fleadh this year is to focus on the experience, the learning, and the vibrancy of it all when it comes together, Win or lose, your taking part is what’s really important to us.”
“Craobh Leitir Ceannain formed in 1957 has been hosting a session in the town every Tuesday night for over 60 years, as I oft’ heard my father proclaim, “Started in Nelly McGoverns Pub at the foot of the street” (Now Sonny McSwine’s). In actual fact, this grew out of a session in the mid-1930s. While the session has moved many times during that period one thing you can be sure of, there is sure to be a session in Letterkenny on a Tuesday. This summer and during the Fleadh the weekly session will be hosted in Blakes Bar Letterkenny main street.”
Looking ahead to The Donegal Fleadh 2023, PRO Shannon Duggan said: “After the success of last year’s Donegal Fleadh, I’d like to welcome you all back to Letterkenny again for Fleadh Cheoil Dún na nGall 2023. I’d like to wish those competing, the very best of luck and hope everyone enjoys the week packed with events that our committee has put together. We’ve been working hard to make this Fleadh one to remember from competitions to sessions with some of the finest players.”
