A member of a local drama group won a Best Supporting Actress award at last night’s All Ireland Drama finals in Athlone.
Rachel O’Connor (main pic on right) picked up the trophy for her role in Ballyshannon Drama Society’s production of ‘A Delicate Balance’.
The play also received nominations for Stage Management (Linda Gallagher, Mary Duggan and Karen Skelly) as well as Best Stage Setting (Sean O’Connor).
Dalkey Players won the overall title with their production of ‘By the Bog of Cats’.
‘A Delicate Balance’ is also directed by Rachel O’Connor – who performs in the show as Claire – and she was assisted by Carl Duggan.
The cast features a group of highly talented, multi-award winning actors: Trish Keane and Richard Hurst as Agnes and Tobias, last year’s newcomers Deirdre Ferguson and Troy Devaney as Julia and Harry, and Kay O’Dea as Edna.
Meanwhile, Ballybofey’s Butt Drama Circle (BDC) also competed strongly in the All Irelands with their original production.
‘Darkness Echoing’ is a play written, starred in and directed by BDS member Shaun Byrne. It also stars Mairead McMenamin and JC Bonar. The group won numerous awards on the way to the finals.
