The Castlefinn suboffice of the B&S Credit Union is set to close in July.
The credit union said that the tenancy at its current premises has been terminated, and searches for a new location have failed.
The closure has been described as a huge loss to the community.
The office is set to officially close on 2nd July 2023.
However, all hope is not lost yet, according to Councillor Gary Doherty who is working on finding a solution.
A statement from B&S Credit Union said: “We will continue to seek an alternative solution and we will continue to invest in our Teller and online services.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience to our members. We look forward to providing all our members with a personal and efficient service through our Ballybofey office and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.”
Cllr Doherty said: “The news that the Castlefinn sub-office of Ballybofey & Stranorlar would be closing was greeted with huge disappointment by locals who rely on this service.
“I would note however that all is not lost yet, and I have been speaking with a number of people to try and find a resolution to this issue.
“I am cautiously optimistic that we can find a suitable premises for the sub-office before the lease runs out in the current building, and that the Credit Union will remain in the town.”
