The Donegal County B darts team were last weekend crowned All Ireland champions.
Donegal sent two teams to this year’s championships which was held in the Knightbrook Hotel in Trim, County Meath. They consisted of the Donegal County B team (main pic) and a youthful Donegal County Development Team.
The Donegal County B team were victorious on this occasion when they beat Dublin in the final 7-2. They topped their group with three wins out of three in what was a very tough group. They then advanced to the Quarter Finals where they beat Cork and also beat Meath in the Semi Finals, setting up the final against Dublin.
This was the first All Ireland championship for the Donegal County Development Team whose only other tournament was the West Coast Challenge. Indeed, they made a great account of themselves by winning their group with two wins out of two. They then defeated Wicklow in the last 16 but, unfortunately, their run came to an end when they were beaten by eventual runners up Dublin.
Also on the Friday, there was a doubles competition run and three out the four semi finalists were all Donegal players. But David Flood and Mike Naulty were the winners on the night with a 5-1 win over Donegal players Derek Quinn and Damian Gamble.
A Singles event was run on the Saturday night, also with a field of 220 players entered. The winner was again another Donegal player in David Flood after he won the Doubles the night before.
The Donegal County Darts Committee would like to thank all the players and sponsors for both teams.
