Inishowen charity iCARE is preparing to host its first ever conference to mark World Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month.
The event takes place on Saturday 29th April 2023 in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana.
The conference is open to parents, professionals, educators or anyone with an interest in learning about autism. Attendees will get an opportunity to learn from lived experiences of autistic individuals. Participants will be introduced to practical strategies and solution-focused tools to help improve the quality of life for autistic children and adults.
Keynote speakers include Adam Harris from ASIAM, Joan McDonald from Positive Learning, Dr Susan Crawford from Get Autism Active, iCARE chairperson, Doreen Friel, a teaching professional and advocate for autism, Sally Murphy, a communication expert, Shane McKenna, an autism professional who has researched parental support and Denise Doherty who has researched employment opportunities for autistic adults.
iCARE Chairperson Doreen Friel said: “We hope that there will be something for everyone at this conference, so if you want to find out anything about autism and you want to train and learn more about what you can do to help break down barriers that exist for autistic people, please buy your ticket.”
