The HSE has confirmed it has begun planning the ‘decongregation’ of the Ard Greine Court facility in Stranorlar.
The term is used to describe the moving of disabled people from institutionalised or congregated settings of ten or more people.
The residents will be moved to alternative, smaller, residential settings in the area and, as a result, the HSE has already purchased a number of houses in and around the Twin Towns.
Yesterday, the residents and their families were informed of the new ‘Time to Move on’ plan set to be rolled out at the centre over the next three years.
The HSE says the decongregation of Ard Greine Court is at an early stage and engagements will continue throughout the process with its 13 residents at the centre of the decision making process.
