Staff at Donegal County Museum have said they are shocked and saddened after vandals damaged the solar panels of the Letterkenny building.
A number of incidents of vandalism have occurred at the public building on the High Road in the past week.
It’s believed that stones were tossed at the roof and smashed valuable solar panels.
The damage was first discovered on Friday last. However, staff returned to work on Monday to find even more vandalism was caused.
The panels will be repaired despite the cost, but the team have been left disappointed by the incident.
Museum Curator Judith McCarthy told Donegal Daily: “The solar panels were put in place last year as part of our effort, both within the museum and within Donegal County Council, to mitigate against the effects of climate change. It’s very frustrating that whoever is doing this is doing it without understanding what exactly it is that they are doing.
“What we are trying to do is important, not just for us, but for everybody.”
Judith added that the museum will be repairing the panels and making plans to put in place measures to try and protect them from future damage.
“This is a positive thing we are doing here, but we are concerned.”
